How should sports uniforms be washed?
Wash uniforms in cold water, skip bleach and fabric softener, and air dry or tumble dry on low heat. This protects both the fabric's performance properties and the printed or embroidered design.
Basic wash routine
Following a simple routine keeps colors and fit looking right for the life of the uniform.
- Turn the garment inside out before washing
- Use cold water on a gentle cycle
- Skip bleach — it breaks down synthetic fibers and can dull colors
- Skip fabric softener — it can clog moisture-wicking fabric and reduce performance
- Air dry when possible, or use low heat if machine drying
Why heat is the main thing to avoid
High heat is the biggest risk to synthetic performance fabrics — it can shrink the garment and gradually degrade the colors, even though sublimated ink itself won't peel. Cooler washing and drying settings protect both the fit and the print.
Handling stains
Treat grass and dirt stains promptly with a gentle stain remover rather than scrubbing hard, which can wear down the fabric surface. Avoid harsh spot-treatment chemicals not meant for synthetics.
Storage between seasons
Store uniforms clean and dry, folded rather than on hangers that can stretch the shoulders, and out of direct sunlight to prevent fading over long storage periods.
